On June 21, 2025, we, the Maryland STEM Education to Employment (MSE3), in collaboration with the Maryland Center for Computing Education (MCCE), and sponsorship from Google, hosted the inaugural AI for Education Summit, a groundbreaking event that brought together educators, policymakers, students, and industry leaders from across the nation.
Featuring over 35 sessions, the Summit explored the evolving role of Artificial Intelligence in education and the opportunities and challenges it presents for schools, educators, and communities. Attendees engaged with exhibitors and sponsors from across the country, highlighting innovative tools, policies, and practices that will help shape Maryland’s leadership in AI-powered education.
The Summit featured distinguished keynote speakers: Gabriella Waters from UMBC, Kimberly Roberson from Prince George’s County Public Schools, and Pat Yongpradit, from Code.org. Their perspectives underscored the importance of equity, innovation, and collaboration in developing AI strategies for the future of education.

And as Director, Kimberly Roberson, Technology Integration and Support, Prince George’s County Public Schools, said “Looking ahead, Maryland is taking a proactive and leading role in preparing schools and students for the future of AI and STEM by defining specific ways to establish the transformational role of AI, spearheaded by the AI in Education Task Force. This group will be responsible for key initiatives, including creating a shared vision for AI literacy and a comprehensive professional learning framework for educators, among other important factors.”

The Summit also elevated student voice through a dynamic lunchtime panel that left a lasting impact on attendees. Students shared their perspectives on AI in learning and the future workforce, offering inspiration and direction to education leaders representing all 24 Maryland school districts. A highlight of the Summit was the recognition of Prince George’s County Public Schools, which was honored for taking a courageous first step in developing AI policy for its district. This pioneering effort serves as a model and inspiration for Maryland’s 23 other school districts, who are now positioned to join together in shaping comprehensive AI strategies for educators, students, and communities statewide. More than just a single event, the AI for Education Summit serves as a springboard for continued statewide collaboration. It laid the foundation for future professional development sessions that will be hosted by MCCE, MSE3, and other partners across the growing STEM, computer science, and AI community. By convening voices from classrooms, districts, higher education, industry, and government, the AI for Education Summit marked a pivotal step in preparing Maryland to lead the nation in responsible, equitable, and innovative uses of AI in education.
“The Maryland STEM Education to Employment Ecosystem (MSE3) can help ensure that the vision of the AI in Education Task Force becomes a reality. They are perfectly positioned to be a catalyst for this work by promoting best practices, organizing workshops, creating resource libraries, and highlighting successful programs across the state of Maryland. This collaboration among the AI in Education Task Force, MSE3, students, teachers, families and other critical partners will help guarantee that across the state we are prepared to meet the challenges of an AI-driven future, together.”
